History

Our economic growth and future requires more well-trained, experienced entrepreneurs. This was the basis of the original application by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) when it was awarded a 4-year grant from the National Science Foundation's Partnerships for Innovation program to create the ACTiVATE program in 2005.

Each year since, the program has brought 20-30 women through an applied exercise in market assessment and business planning, and then welcomed them into the growing pool of like-minded alumnae. With over 130 ACTiVATE'd, the program is poised for expansion through the exclusive license to the Path Forward Center.

With its launch in early 2010, the Path Forward Center, thanks in part to funding from the Kauffman Foundation, is looking for regional partners to expand the ACTiVATE program and reach our goal of increasing our reach from 100's to 1000's.
